| Description of the problem | For several years I have informally mentioned this safety matter to board members. I had been led to believe that the problem would be corrected in 2022. It is a serious pedestrian safety hazard. The sidewalk is cracked in several places and is raised above level by about 6 to 8 inches at its highest point. To insure our own safety, we avoid this section because of the hazard. It looks like the tree roots have heaved the sidewalk and the root will require pruning prior to repair of the sidewalk. As you can see the edges of the broken pieces have been ground down to the point where those edges are a safety hazard themselves. The attached photo demonstrates the extent to which the sidewalk has been raised and damaged. In essence, the existing broken sidewalk section should be removed, the tree root should be pruned and a new level sidewalk section should be installed. |
